Will I bruise after injections with fillers or neurotoxins?

It is possible to have mild to moderate bruising after any injection. This is always temporary and can last 3-5 days. We recommend using an arnica supplement and/or topical cream to decrease bruising post-procedure. These products are available at our office. Additionally, talk to your provider about medications or supplements that can increase bruising such as aspirin, ibuprofen, Aleve, Advil, Excedrin, fish oil, and many other supplements. Always provide a complete list of medications or supplements that you are taking at your consultation appointment.

Will the injections cause pain?

Injections are performed with the smallest needles that can be used to decrease any discomfort that occurs during the injection. Neurotoxins have a mild burning sensation when injected, but this does not last more than a minute or two. Additionally, many fillers have a numbing agent, called Lidocaine, mixed in the product to aid in comfort. Topical numbing is an option prior to treatment for more sensitive areas. Finally, ice is provided post-injection for comfort and swelling purposes. You should not have any pain after the injections are complete.

Will my lines and wrinkles be completely gone after injections?

Most lines and wrinkles will be softened and are much less noticeable after injections. A thorough discussion with your provider is important to determine expected results from any treatment offered at our office.

Will there be redness of my skin after injections?

Depending on your skin tone, there will likely be mild redness at the injection sites after the treatment. This redness should improve within an hour after the injection.

Will there be swelling after injections?

Many areas of the face will swell with filler injections. The most likely areas to swell include under the eyes and the lips. The swelling will likely resolve within 3 days of the treatment. Icing is recommended after the procedure to improve swelling.

How do I know my treatment is working?

If you had a treatment with neurotoxins, such as Botox, Jeuveau, or Xeomin, you will notice that your muscles in the treated area will not contract as much after 7-10 days post-treatment with movement such as lifting eyebrows, furrowing brows, or a large smile. The lines and wrinkles in these areas should not worsen with movement and may soften as a result of the treatment. u003cbr/u003eIf you have treatment with fillers, such a Juvederm, Restylane, Radiesse, or Belotero, you will notice best results within just a few days. When swelling resolves, the areas of the face that were treated will appear fuller and the lines treated will soften in appearance. u003cbr/u003eTaking before-and-after photos is helpful in seeing the difference after injectable treatments.

Are there risks of fillers or neurotoxins?

As with any medical procedure, there are risks involved with injections. The most common risks include bruising, swelling, and redness after injections. Your provider will discuss risks and benefits of each treatment in detail during your consultation.

Can I use my normal facial skin care products or make-up before or after the injection?

During your treatment, makeup and lotions will be removed prior to the injections to help avoid infection. Immediately after any injection, however, you may re-apply any topical treatments or makeup you desire.

How do I know which filler or neurotoxin is best for me?

During the consultation, your provider will review your medical history, current medications, and overall goals for the appearance of your skin and face. With this information, your provider can help determine appropriate types, brands, and amount of injectables and treatments that could be used to meet your goals.
