What Is Xeomin?
Xeomin is an FDA-approved injection that temporarily relaxes the muscles in the face by blocking the release of chemicals that cause those muscles to contract. It is typically used to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles to give the skin a more youthful, smoother look. It can also be used to reduce migraines and help with overactive bladder and certain eye conditions.
How Does Xeomin Work?
Xeomin is a prescription neuromodulator that works by blocking the signals sent from your nerves to your muscles. By blocking these signals, it forces the muscles to relax and remain in a smooth position which reduces the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles on the face. This can include laugh lines, wrinkles, and other indentations in the skin.
What Areas Does Xeomin Treat?
While Xeomin is FDA-approved for the temporary improvement of frown lines or the line between your eyebrows, it can be used to treat fine lines and wrinkles around the rest of the face as well. Some of the areas it can treat include:
Horizontal Lines on the Forehead
When it comes to permanent wrinkle formation, the forehead is one of the most problematic areas. No matter what emotion or expression you show, your forehead plays a part in it. Because of that, horizontal lines can show up on the forehead.
Luckily, Xeomin injections can correct those lines. They can stop the muscles in the forehead from contracting and keep the area smooth.
Crows’ Feet
Crow’s feet can be one of the first signs people look for when deciding how old someone might be. Unfortunately, they can make you look much older than you are. That’s where Xeomin comes in. Xeomin injections can reduce the appearance of lines around the eyes and give you a more youthful appearance.
Brows
Your forehead and your brows are responsible for most of the facial expressions you make every day. Due to repeated facial expressions, they are also the place where fine lines and wrinkles show up the earliest.
The deep wrinkles between the brows, also known as glabellar lines, can make you look upset even when your face is relaxed. Luckily, Xeomin works wonders in this area. It can smooth out the skin, significantly reduce the appearance of those frown lines, and make you look much more relaxed.
The Xeomin Procedure in Bloomfield Hills
During Xeomin treatment, Dr. Ellen or her trained staff will inject Xeomin into the muscles in the face. What muscles she injects the formula into depends on the areas you’re concerned with. No anesthetic is required but if you’re worried about any discomfort, a topical anesthetic can be used before the procedure. Pro-Nox is also available.
After an anesthetic is used, Dr. Ellen will use a syringe to inject the formulation into the necessary areas. Treatment will likely take between 10 to 20 minutes depending on how many areas are injected.
After your injections, you can go home, go back to school or work, or go about your normal day.
Xeomin Results
After the Xeomin injections, Dr. Ellen will give you some post-procedure guidelines that you should follow. You will want to avoid strenuous activities for at least 24 hours, you shouldn’t drink alcohol for at least a few days, and you won’t want to firmly touch the treated area for at least a day.
You may have some redness, swelling, and bruising at the injection sites but they will fade within a few days. The results will begin to show up within 5-7 days and you’ll see full results within a few weeks.
Results will begin to fade after 3-4 months but you can go in for follow-up maintenance appointments at that point.
