What is a chemical peel?
Chemical peels are used to improve the skin through chemical exfoliation. It can be used to treat acne scars, signs of aging, crow’s feet, scars, hyperpigmentation, sun-damaged skin, brown spots, sagging skin, wrinkles, and more. Chemical peels are most commonly performed on the face, but can also be used on the neck, décolleté, feet, and hands.
How do chemical peels work?
A chemical solution exfoliates the skin and removes dead and damaged skin cells. The underlying skin is regenerated with fewer wrinkles and a smoother, softer, more youthful-looking surface. The procedure can cause some light stinging or burning, but can require a topical anesthetic for deeper peels. The deeper your chemical peel, the more correction it can achieve in cases of deep wrinkles or pigmentation. Deeper peels require a longer downtime, however.
