What is Microneedling?

The SkinPen ® microneedling device provides an unparalleled response through the segmented delivery of micro-injuries to the epidermis (outer layer of skin) and dermis (the inner layer of skin). As a result, the micro-injuries encourage the body’s innate ability to repair itself.

How Does Microneedling Work?

Prior to the procedure, the skin is numbed using a topical anesthetic to avoid discomfort. Using a SkinPen microneedling device, your aesthetician will make small pinpricks in the skin. These tiny injuries to the epidermis (outer layer of skin) and dermis (the inner layer of skin) stimulate collagen growth as the skin works to heal itself. Collagen causes a firmer, rejuvenated appearance. For that reason, microneedling is suitable for addressing a range of issues from visible signs of aging to acne scarring.

After using the microneedles, your aesthetician will likely apply a calming treatment or serums containing specialized ingredients chosen to address your skin concerns.

Microneedling Results

Microneedling is used to treat and improve conditions like scarring, fine lines and wrinkles, loose skin, skin texture, pore size, brown spots, stretch marks, and pigment issues. While some results may be almost immediate, your best results usually won’t be visible until four to six weeks after the procedure.

Immediately after the treatment, the skin will be red and some patients may see minor irritation. As the redness subsides, skin should be visibly firmer and rejuvenated. Increased collagen production also means that the skin continues to improve over time. Multiple sessions of the treatment can create more effective results.
