There are many different skincare treatments that we offer at Envee Aesthetics. Two options for improving the look and feel of your skin are microneedling and microdermabrasion. Although they can accomplish similar results, the two procedures are different.
What Is Microdermabrasion?
Microdermabrasion is a procedure that focuses on reinvigorating the skin by removing old skin. The procedure can treat and improve skin issues or concerns such as:
- Age spots
- Wrinkles and fine lines
- Hyperpigmentation
- Dulled skin
- Scars and stretch marks
- Large pores or blackheads
- Acne
- Sun damage
- Uneven skin tone
There are two methods used in microdermabrasion:
1. Abrasive applicator: A dermatological tool is used to scrub away the top layer of skin.
2. Chemical method: In this method, a fine application of acid is put on the face and removed with suction. It has the effect of removing the top layer of skin too.
Removing the old, dull skin can immediately give your face a fresh look. This method of skin rejuvenation is considered mild and safe. There is no real downtime, but you may experience redness and skin sensitivity for a few days after treatment.
While you can expect to see some results instantly, optimal results are often achieved after a few treatment sessions. This will depend on which issues you are treating and the severity of your case.
What is Microneedling?
Microneedling is a method of treating skin issues which utilizes a tool with hundreds of tiny, sterile needles. This tool is moved across the face during the procedure.
This method is intended to cause controlled micro-wounds to deeper layers of skin, which stimulates these layers to begin producing more collagen. In some cases, there will be a topical serum or medication that the needles will help deposit deeper into the skin to enhance treatment results for patients.
Microneedling is considered minimally-invasive since it pierces the skin, unlike microdermabrasion. It can treat concerns like stretch marks and wrinkles like microdermabrasion, but it also treats:
- Loose skin
- Burn scars
- Alopecia
- Rosacea
The reason microneedling can treat these issues is that it causes the skin to repair itself from the inside out by making more collagen and elastin.
Microneedling may require topical anesthetic for some people. Some side effects are redness, swelling, or bleeding after a session, but these symptoms do not last. Final results take time as the skin is rebuilding and healing from the inside out.
